In my last post, we went over important vocabulary for household objects. Now let's build on that by learning action words to use with those items!
Verbs are essential for being able to describe what you and others are doing. Here are 30 of the most common and useful English verbs for beginner learners:
- Be - The state of existing. "I am happy."
- Have - Expressing possession. "I have a toy."
- Do - Take action. "I do my homework."
- Say - Utter or speak words. "Say hello!"
- Go - Move from one place to another. "I go to school."
- Get - Obtain or receive something. "I got a bike."
- Make - Create or build something. "I made a sandcastle."
- Know - Be aware or certain of information. "I know the answer."
- Think - Use your mind to form thoughts. "I think it will rain."
- Take - Grasp something and move it. "Take my hand!"
- See - Perceive with your eyes. "I see a bird!"
- Come - Move toward a person or place. "Come over here."
- Want - Desire to have something. "I want ice cream."
- Look - Direct your gaze in a direction. "Look over there!"
- Use - Utilize or employ an object. "Use a spoon."
- Find - Discover or locate something. "I find my toy."
- Give - Hand over or provide something. "Give me a hug!"
- Tell - Provide information to someone. "I tell stories."
- Ask - Seek out information by questioning. "Ask me a question."
- Work - Expend effort to complete tasks. "I work hard."
- Call - Get in touch or summon someone. "Call me later!"
- Try - Attempt to do something. "I will try my best."
- Buy - Obtain something by paying money. "I buy groceries."
- Learn - Acquire knowledge or a skill. "I learn English."
- Put - Place something in a spot. "Put the dishes away."
- Read - Look at text and comprehend meaning. "I read books."
- Write - Form letters and words on a surface. "Write your name."
- Play - Engage in recreational activity. "Let's play soccer."
- Run - Move rapidly by foot. "I run fast."
- Love - Feel deep affection for someone. "I love my family."
Try using these verbs in sentences with the household items from last time. Ex: "I see the clock. It goes on the wall." Have fun and keep practicing!
